Guide to US Data Resources
  • NGDC

The US National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC/NOAA) in Boulder, Colorado, is the federally mandated long-term repository for US marine geophysical data, and also functions as a World Data Center.

  • IEDA

The Integrated Earth Data Applications (IEDA), at L-DEO, Columbia University, has been funded by NSF to host at least 15 data systems. Frequently used resources include:

  • Global topography: another source of global topography and bathymetry data is the SIO Satellite Geodesy website.

European Resources via SeaDataNet

A growing number of European projects are making use of the common resources of the SeaDataNet project which involves 47 partners from 33 countries. Although anyone can search through SeaDataNet holdings, you will need to register as a user to download files.

  • International cruise info
You can query the POGO Cruise Summary Report database for basic information. Searches can be constrained by country, ship, ocean area, discipline or institute.

  • Multibeam bathymetry
Browse the SeaDataNet extended search interface. For "Instrument type" dropdown, select "multi-beam echosounders" and click "Search."
The tracks will be shown on a map, and datasets may be selected for download. You can constrain your search with a variety of other parameters such as year, country or project name.

  • Magnetics or gravity
Browse the SeaDataNet extended search interface. For "Instrument type" dropdown, select "magnetometers" or "gravimeters" and click "Search."
The tracks will be shown on a map, and datasets may be selected for download. You can constrain your search with a variety of other parameters such as year, country or project name.
